Horror games have come a long way since the early days of games like Friday the 13th on NES. In fact, the woods seem to be less the setting and more the villain of the story. The developers aim to recreate the feelings they experienced as children, roaming the woods alone. Norwegian indie studio Antagonist created the game, funded by a successful Kickstarter.

Through the WoodsThrough the Woods is a psychological horror game about the lengths a mother will go through to save her son. The Oculus Rift version of the game takes it one step further, putting you in total isolation from the world both real and imagined. Couple that with encounters with monsters of the deep, contact with which increases oxygen consumption to the point where you're character can black out. All alone, the atmosphere is made that much more frantic by the ticking clock that is the oxygen supply of the diving suit your character wears in the game. NarcosisIn Narcosis, you find yourself at the bottom of the sea following an accident on an offshore oil rig. Unraveling memories of what looks like an unhappy life together is unsettling enough, but when dead-eyes aliens are tossed into the mix, the creepiness really takes off. The first-person game casts you in the role of a mother dealing with the mysterious loss of her husband some months earlier. The Hum: AbductionsThe Hum: Abductions is part of a larger 'Hum' universe, including The Hum Game and Alien Abduction Simulator.
